In a vast Pannonian plain, where speaking in terms of altitude, the largest portion of the terrain is almost flat, each occurrence of any kind of difference in altitude could warn a careful and curious observer that it is the matter of inherently, both genetically and structurally, different natural units. Therefore, the subject of our interest is the southern part of Backa loess terrace, which is only by a few meters lower than central Backa loess flatland and somewhat higher than alluvial plain of the Danube. Although it is often the matter of gradual, almost invisible transitions, they, as such, make the border between different natural and general geographical complexes of emphasised properties. South Backa loess terrace, being monotonous by shape and surface, is intersected with the Jegricka river valley. The length of this river streams is 64 km and its basin occupies around 144,200 ha. With its abundance of natural and attractive attributes, the river has affected the quality properties of the area on it and around it up to such an extent that it served as the basis for creation of the Nature Park “Jegricka”. Formerly the longest national (autochthonous) river of Backa, which does not have any classical spring, is supplied with water from several depressions that are located to the south from Despotovo. This small river represents the system of connected ponds through which water flows out to its confluence into the river Tisa.
