The Hydroelectric Power plant “Djerdap I” was built on the Danube at Kladovo in accordance with the agreement signed between Yugoslavia and Romania in 1963 and it was put in operation in 1970. There are 180.000 ha of land in total that are under influence of slow down caused by the dam on the Danube and that is why a special system of protection was designed that included drainage canals, drainage wells, pump stations, embankments etc.
Obligations of the Public Company “Djerdap” are as follows:
- to complete the additional system of the bank area in the value of about 62.000.000€
- to provide regular annual monitoring, measuring and analyzing of slow down impacts that require the annual investment of about 500.000€
- to provide regular and investment maintenance of structures for bank protection and functioning and operation of pump stations, that require the annual investment of about 3.500.000€.
Maintenance, provision of functionality and operation of the constructed structures for protection against the slow down caused by the Hydroelectric Power plant “Djerdap I” is carried out by 6 water management companies from the territory of the Autonomous province of Vojvodina in accordance with the agreement signed with the Public Company “Djerdap”, as follows:
- WMC “Podunavlje” Kovin
- WMC “Tamis- Dunav” Pancevo
- WMC “Usce” Bela Crkva
- WMC “Srednji Banat” Zrenjanin
- WMC “Sajkaska” Novi Sad
- WMC “Galovica” Zemun
The surface of 148.000 ha in the territory of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina is under the influence of slow down caused by the Hydroelectric Power plant “Djerdap”.
